When Should Surgery Be Done? |
Younger patients undergo surgery because of the fat deposits protruding through the wall orbital septum either in the upper or lower lid, making the eyes look dull and tired. |
Older people normally have age changes such as excess eye lid skin with and without protruding fat. Most patient seeking surgery wants a rejuvenated appearance that require re establishing the normal architecture of the eyes that was present when they were younger. Liposuction techniques |

Suction assisted lipectomy (SAL) - traditional and time tested method of liposuction. Finer canulas and better techniques have resulted in vastly improved results. SAL is the gold standard in liposuction techniques even now. |

Ultrasound assisted lipectomy (UAL)- utilizes ultrasound energy to break the fat cells before suctioning them out. Advantages include decreased effort for the surgeon and probably less amount of blood loss. However, increased chances of fluid collection and skin damage exist.

Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)
| Sudden massive weight loss and post pregnancy can cause the abdominal skin to droop. This can also occur in people who have undergone BARIATRIC SURGERY. Laxity of the abdominal musculature which can lead to hernias is also addressed at the same time. |
Unlike liposuction which involves removing only fat allowing the skin to shrink, abdominoplasty is more extensive and is associated with removal of fat, excess skin and tightening of the musculature. |
In some cases, liposuction surgery can be combined with excision of just the excess abdominal skin below the belly button( Mini Tummy Tuck). When a full tummy tuck is contemplated, contour liposuction is best done at the same time. Liposuction helps shape the thighs, back and sides. Abdominoplasty takes care of the hanging abdominal skin. Occasionally minor additional liposuction is done after the original operation as touch up provided if indicated. |
The Procedure |
Thorough liposuction of the abdominal skin is first carried out. The excess skin then moves more easily and the skin is marked. The incision is marked within the bikini line and the excess skin is removed, the belly button is cored out. The muscles are tightened in the midline and also in the lower abdomen. If there is hernia it is repaired at this time. Separation of muscles in the midline can also be repaired. The belly button is brought through good skin and the incision closed in layers over a drain. Contrary to what you may think, the belly button is not excised during the operation. |

Arm Lift (Brachioplasty)
Brachioplasty is the medical term for an upper arm lift procedure. During brachioplasty surgery excess fat and skin is removed from the upper arm area in order to create a firmer more youthful looking arm contour. A brachioplasty can enhance the appearance of arms that, with age or weight loss, have lost their natural firmness and shape.
Patients who have had mastectomy surgery may not be able to have a brachioplasty because of the increased risks repeated of armpit infections also people with excess sweat production may also not be good candidates for brachioplasty cosmetic surgery.
The Procedure
Loose upper arm skin is most often related to weight loss. If you were ever overweight, you more than likely developed heavy upper arms. To accommodate the increased volume of the upper arms, your skin stretched. After weight loss, the skin often fails to tighten, and so it sags. The only way to improve this problem is through an arm lift.
Thigh Lift
A thigh lift is done to remove excess skin from the thigh and buttock area. This sagging of skin is usually caused by weight loss or ageing. After patients have lost a lot of weight, having this surgery performed is like the “icing on the cake”.
Breast Enlargement / Breast Augmentation |
Perky and full looking breasts seem to make a woman feel more complete. Thanks to advances in science, this can be a reality for any woman. More importantly, breast implants have been proven to be safe and does not affect functions of the breast. Nor do they cause or increase the chance of tumors or breast cancer. Even breast feeding can be done normally later. |
The US FDA has approved cohesive gel silicon implants for breast augmentation. Implants are available in various sizes and the right choice of implant depends on the amount of existing breast tissue, the chest size and personal choice. |

The surgery is done as a day care procedure. Upper body exercises and fondling of breasts are to be avoided for a month. Desk jobs and light physical activity can be resumed in a few days. |
The operation is carried out in partner centre under general anesthesia on an outpatient basis. An implant (prosthesis) is placed through an incision, under the breast tissue or under the muscle. The incision can be made under the breast, around the nipple or in the armpit. It generally takes two to three hours to complete the entire procedure. A breast implant is composed of an outer shell filled with saline (salt water). The outer surface may be smooth or textured, and implants come in various shapes to meet the individual woman’s needs. |
Types of implants |
Implants can be broadly classified as SALINE and SILICON implants depending on its contents. Saline implants have saline (salt water) solution inside the pliable silicon shell. Saline implants were extensively used prior to USFDA approval for cohesive gel implants. Saline implants are very safe, but have shown long term problems of rippling, sloshing and deflation |
Silicon implants have a cohesive matrix of silicon gel inside. The cohesive silicon gel implants are preferred in most cases as they look and feel more natural. |
Silicon implants are available in the round or circular(most commonly used) as well as the anatomic or ‘teardrop’ shape. These are also available as low, moderate and high profile. We use only MENTOR or MCGHAN brand of implants(both are US FDA approved). |
Breast Lift (Mastopexy)
Breasts lose their firmness and shape with age, due to weight loss and following pregnancy and breast feeding. Loss of volume along with loss of skin elasticity will cause the breasts to droop. The nipple and areola changes position and in many people looks downwards. Mastopexy /breast lift is the procedure to reshape as well as reposition the breasts in its youthful position. Implants may be required to replace the loss of volume. Pregnancy after mastopexy will cause the breast to enlarge further and a well supporting bra will help.
Endoscopic Forehead and Browlift
We perform Brow and Forehead Lifts to raise eyebrows and reduce ridges and furrows on the forehead, thus creating a smoother, more youthful appearance. This procedure can be performed in conjunction with other surgeries.
Newer techniques now allow us to perform Forehead Lifting through small incisions in the scalp by using an Endoscope and specialized instruments. This accelerates the healing process.
Face Lift (Rhytidectomy)
Face-Lift, or a Rhytidectomy, is designed to restore a more youthful appearance by removing major wrinkles and sagging skin. It involves tightening of the facial and neck muscles as well as the removal of any excess skin.
The skin begins to wrinkle and sag as a result of age, sun exposure and genetics. Children and young adults have smooth, round faces due to evenly distributed fatty tissues in facial contours. Over time, the skin sags and folds over the chin, jawline and neck. Not only does a facelift improve facial appearance but also has a dramatic effect on the neck, enhancing its contour and profile.
A facelift can make a patient look 5 to 10 years younger.
Dramatic as the end results are, this is not a simple procedure. It requires a week to 10 days of recovery.
Gynecomastia (Male Breast Reduction)
Having breasts can be very embarrassing for a man. During puberty, hormonal changes take place in the body (unopposed female hormones or low levels of male hormone) and as a result, breast tissue form and enlarge in some boys. This may disappear in many cases over time. But if it does not, the residual breast tissue and fat together form the male breast. This can very well be removed in an aesthetic manner with liposuction only using certain special instruments. This is termed” KEY HOLE MALE BREAST SURGERY”. The scars are minimal and fade in time. This is a day care surgery and one can return to work in a couple of days. The results are permanent. Swelling in the operated area takes about three weeks to settle down.
Key hole surgery for male breast refers to application of principles of liposuction using certain special instruments. The marks are only 3-4 mm long and fade in time
A pressure garment is to be worn for 3 weeks after the procedure to support the skin during the healing period.
Hair Transplant
Hair loss and hair fall are two separate things. Hair fall is a natural daily occurrence. Human head contains over 100,000 hairs and one normally sheds 100 to 150 hairs a day, every hair is genetically programmed. In general 85% of the hair on your head grow approximately 1 centimeter per month for about 2 to 6 years and then fall off. Hair loss is primarily caused by a combination of ageing, a change in hormones and a family history (genetic) of baldness. As a rule, the earlier hair loss begins, the more severe the baldness will become. Hair loss can also be caused by burns or trauma, in which case hair replacement is considered a reconstructive treatment. However, hairs on back of your head are genetically programmed and scheduled to last long. Approximately, 30 percent Indian men will show signs of male pattern baldness by the age of 20. The incidence of male pattern baldness increases 10 percent per decade through a man’s life. The causes of female loss range often from iron deficiency to thyroid abnormalities to childbirth. For both sexes, hair loss causes diminished self-esteem, stress, anxiety, depression and feelings of social inadequacy
Baldness is often blamed on poor circulation to the scalp, vitamin deficiencies, dandruff excessive hat-wearing. All of these theories have been disproved. If hair is a symbol of a person’s youth, the loss of it can act as a reminder of approaching old age for men entering their forties.
Female Pattern Hair Loss
The most common type of hair loss seen in women is androgenic alopecia, also known as female pattern alopecia or baldness. This is seen as hair thinning predominantly over the top and sides of the head. It affects approximately one-third of all susceptible women, but is most commonly seen after menopause, although it may begin as early as puberty. Normal hair fall is approximately 100-120 hairs per day. Fortunately, these hairs are replaced. True hairs loss occurs when lost hairs are not re-grown or when the daily hair shed exceeds 125 hairs. Genetically, hair loss can come from either parent’s side of the family
Hair Transplantation
In hair transplantation, it’s this non-miniaturized hair on the back and sides that is surgically moved to the top of the head in the form of a tiny skin graft. Because the hair on the permanent horseshoe is genetically programmed to grow a lifetime, it will continue to grow even though it’s been transplanted to a different site. This is medical fact, and has been repeatedly proven for more than thirty five years.
For some patients, a hairline may need recreation; for others, more extensive hair replacement maybe required. A few patients may want to correct sparse eyebrows or a scar on the scalp. All these individuals, both men and women, are good candidates for the procedure.
Procedure
Under local anesthesia, the donor hair grafts are harvested from a strip of skin taken from area between two ears. The strip is divided into small units of skin (grafts), each containing one to three hairs - the follicular units. Then recipient sites are created in the area of hair loss by making small slits in the bald skin. Each site is no bigger than the opening created by the needle used when blood is drawn from your arm. Then each of the grafts is carefully placed into each recipient site. The donor site in the back of the head is not visible. Three to four months later, the transplanted hair begins to grow and continues to grow a half inch per month for the rest of your life.
FAMI
Facial wrinkles and creases are part of the ageing process. They begin to appear as the underlying collagen and elastic fibers break down and wear out. While this breakdown is part of the natural ageing process, it can also result from excessive squinting, frowning and smiling.
Fat transfer, also called autologous fat transplantation or micro-lipoinjection, plumps up facial features with patients own fat, and is a popular alternative to other wrinkle treatments. Fat transfer to the face is a safe, natural, non-allergenic procedure, designed to recontour your face, and can provide definition to your cheeks and chin. It can also be used to correct facial deformities. Since fat transfer uses your own fat cells, you can never have an allergic reaction, because it's from your own body.
Nose Surgery (Rhinoplasty)
Nose forms the centre of the face and can make either a good or a bad statement. The surgery of the nose involves changes to all or some parts in the nose and reshaping. People who are unhappy with the shape of the nose and also have a difficulty in breathing can be improved simultaneously. Septum can be corrected at the same time resulting in being able to breathe better. This is the cosmetic surgical procedure most frequently performed all over the world. A good treatment plan and the understanding of your requirements is very important for a successful treatment outcome. The results achieved are permanent and very pleasing.
